Georgia Pass wildlife destruction

Sharing a story my daughter (Laia Ector, 11) wrote after seeing some devastation over Georgia Pass...

---

Hello. My name is Laia Ector. I am 11 years old now. My parents and I decided to go camping on 2023, July 8. We went to Georgia Pass. We’ve been there before, and its stunning. The trees climb tall, moose graze the prairies, and birds sing lullabies. Beautiful sparkling lakes shone like a star in the night sky. We always found adventures and new sights every time we go there. But when drove there, something changed.

Fallen trees and uprooted rocks, mountains of dug-up gravel ‘greeted’ us. Campsites that we loved were blocked with massive logs and as I said, rocks and gravel. This only means one thing. Excavators were there. They have been told by their insane boss to dig up places that were used for hiking and camping. People shared memories here. They had good times with friends. They watched the wildlife. Georgia pass was a place to go to get away from screens and connect with nature. If people want to tent, camp, or hang outside, they need to search no farther! It used to be a new world. But not anymore. This was very upsetting.

Animals are losing their homes. They are forced to leave this once called paradise! Some are endangered species! But does the guy in charge care? NO! Not even a little bit. When we hiked today, at least for a whole mile was this mess of roots pulled out, dead trees, and rocks making it impossible to go there in your car!

If he doesn’t want us to be there, why does he have to this for an entire mile?! One fallen tree would do the trick. Even better, place a gate there! My dad told me it takes longer in high altitude for trees to grow. That means he cut down trees that are 50 years old! Some are even ancient! Even worse is, he is blocking mines made long ago. Why is that bad, you ask? It’s part of Colorado history! It’s part of our history! See for yourself if you don’t believe me.

I’m worried he’ll destroy too much and they’ll build buildings here. People engulfed in their electronic devices, completely forgetting about the wonderful outdoors. If there is no place to hike, camp, tent, etc., no one would play outside, or even touch grass. We use the outdoors to get away from screens. We would not care to look outside because houses are surrounding us.   Also, animals would leave Colorado. Do you really want that?

We are known for our hiking places. We are known for our fantastic animals. We are known for the great outdoors. We are known for our mountains, and Georgia Pass was a different universe from Colorado, or even yet, most of our country.  But this worm brain is completely throwing that feeling away. So that is why we need your help. We need all the help we can get to stop this psychopath. Please, send complaints to protect the wildlife we have and mend this wound. I bet you, he won’t stop. #savegeorgiapass! Join the club!

Choosing a primary care physician is an essential decision that one must make in their healthcare journey. A primary care doctor serves as the initial point of contact for all healthcare needs and plays a crucial role in promoting overall wellness and preventative care. The process of selecting a primary care provider can be overwhelming, especially when there are numerous options available. Therefore, it is important to consider various factors to ensure that you find the right doctor who meets your health needs and preferences.

Finding the Right Doctor

When seeking a primary care physician, it is imperative to conduct thorough research in order to find a doctor who meets all necessary criteria and aligns with personal medical needs.
The first step in finding the right doctor is to determine what type of primary care physician is needed.

There are various types of physicians, including family medicine doctors, internists, pediatricians, and geriatricians.

Each type specializes in different areas and can provide unique benefits depending on individual needs.

Once the type of physician has been determined, it is important to research potential doctors thoroughly. It may also be helpful to schedule consultations with potential doctors in order to get a better idea of their approach and experience.

Ultimately, finding the right primary care physician should involve careful consideration of personal preferences and medical needs in order to establish an effective long-term relationship with a trusted healthcare provider.

In-Network Doctors

One crucial factor to consider while selecting a healthcare provider is whether they are part of the insurance plan's network. In-network doctors are those who have agreed to accept the negotiated rates and terms of the patient's insurance plan, which may result in lower out-of-pocket costs for patients. On the other hand, choosing an out-of-network doctor may lead to higher expenses as these providers do not have contracts with insurance companies.

It is important to note that some insurance plans offer more flexibility than others when it comes to choosing doctors outside their network. For instance, some plans may allow patients to see out-of-network providers but at a higher cost-sharing rate.

Therefore, before settling on a primary care doctor, patients should review their health plan's details and confirm if their preferred doctor is within the network or not. Doing so can help avoid unexpected bills and provide peace of mind during medical consultations.

Expertise and Health Needs

The expertise of a primary care provider must align with a patient's unique health needs to ensure effective and personalized treatment.

Patients have different medical needs, and it is essential to choose a primary care physician who has the necessary skills and knowledge to address those needs.

For instance, patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease require specialized care from physicians who are well-versed in managing such illnesses.

Moreover, patients should consider their age, gender, lifestyle choices, and family medical history when choosing a primary care physician. For example, women may prefer female doctors for gynecological exams or prenatal care. Additionally, older patients may need geriatric specialists who can provide comprehensive care for age-related illnesses.

By considering their expertise and aligning it with your specific healthcare needs, you can receive proper treatment that caters to your unique medical requirements.

Referrals

Referrals play an important role in connecting patients with specialists who can provide specialized care for their specific medical conditions. A referral is a recommendation by a primary care physician to see another healthcare provider, such as a specialist or surgeon, for further evaluation and treatment. Referrals are typically made when the primary care physician does not have the expertise or equipment necessary to diagnose or treat a particular condition.

Here are five key points to keep in mind when it comes to referrals:

  • Referrals can save time and money by ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate care from the start.
  • Patients should be proactive in asking their primary care physician for referrals if they feel they need specialized care.
  • It's important for patients to research potential specialists before scheduling appointments to make sure they have the necessary qualifications and experience.
  • Patients should also check with their insurance provider to make sure that any referred healthcare providers are covered under their plan.
  • If a patient receives a referral but does not feel comfortable with the recommended specialist, they should discuss alternative options with their primary care physician.

Logistics and Location

Logistics and location are important factors to consider when seeking specialized medical care. It is essential to find a primary care physician who is easily accessible for regular check-ups and consultations. Consider the distance you would have to travel from your home or workplace, as well as the transportation options available in case of emergencies.

The location should not be the only factor to consider, though. Take note of office hours and availability of appointments, especially if you have a busy schedule. Ultimately, finding a primary care physician that suits your needs requires thorough research, careful consideration of logistics and location factors, and an understanding of what makes for quality medical service provision.

Qualities and Factors to Look For

Assessing the qualifications and expertise of a primary care physician is crucial when choosing someone to manage your overall health. A primary care physician should have the necessary training and credentials required to diagnose and treat common medical conditions, as well as provide preventive care and guidance on healthy lifestyle choices. They should also be knowledgeable about various medical specialties and able to refer you to specialists when needed.

Another important factor to consider when selecting a primary care physician is their communication skills. A good doctor should be able to listen attentively, communicate clearly, and explain complex medical information in simple terms that patients can understand. Additionally, they should be approachable, empathetic, and responsive to patient concerns.

Finally, it's important to choose a provider who shares your values when it comes to healthcare decision-making so that you can work together effectively towards achieving your health goals.

First Doctor Visit

During the initial medical consultation, patients can expect to receive a comprehensive assessment of their current health status and medical history. This typically involves a discussion about any existing medical conditions, past surgeries or hospitalizations, medications currently being taken, and family medical history.

The physician may also perform various physical exams such as checking blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and height measurements, as well as conducting lab tests if needed.

It is important for patients to be open and honest with their primary care physician during this initial visit. Providing accurate information about one's health history can help the doctor make an accurate diagnosis and develop a personalized treatment plan.

Patients should also use this opportunity to ask any questions or express concerns they may have regarding their health. Building a strong relationship with one's primary care physician is crucial in ensuring optimal health outcomes in the long run.

Intuition and Second Opinion if Needed.

If a patient feels uncertain about their diagnosis or treatment plan, seeking a second opinion from another medical professional can provide valuable insight and peace of mind. Intuition also plays an important role in choosing a primary care physician. While many patients rely on recommendations from friends and family, it is essential to trust one's gut instincts when making this critical decision.

In some cases, intuition may be the only factor that can guide patients toward finding the right primary care physician for them. It is crucial to establish good communication with one's doctor as well as feel comfortable discussing personal health concerns.

By considering these factors, patients can better evaluate their options when selecting a primary care physician. Remember that trusting one's intuition can lead to more personalized and effective healthcare services tailored to individual needs.

Choosing the right primary care physician is crucial for maintaining good health and managing medical conditions effectively. The process of selecting a doctor can be overwhelming, but it is essential to consider various factors that can impact the quality of care received. Overall, taking time to research options thoroughly while considering individual needs will help ensure finding the best possible primary care physician for long-term healthcare management.

The Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) announced the Nonprofit Infrastructure (NPI) Grant Program, a statewide grant program for small, community-based, nonprofit organizations providing services to communities who have historically been underrepresented, underserved, or under-resourced.

Nonprofits in Boulder, Larimer and Broomfield counties can apply here:

https://uwaylc.smapply.io/prog/the_nonprofit_infrastructure_grant_program/

The Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), through the Regional Access Partners Network, seeks small nonprofit applicants, with annual budgets between $150,000 and $2,000,000, that have been affected by the infrastructure aftermath of COVID-19. While the grant is not for programming, it does open doors for other opportunities such as strategic planning, professional development for board and staff, technology, etc.

The application will open on July 5, 2023 and close on August 31, 2023.

The Nonprofit Infrastructure Grant Program

The Nonprofit Infrastructure Grant was created after the Colorado House Bill 22-1356 was signed into law on June 3, 2022, to help underrepresented communities with limited access to state and federal funding and those impacted and disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. The emphasis on infrastructure and capacity building will help small nonprofits build critical staff and boards, while providing funds to proactively invest in the organization’s makeup. The grant is designed for nonprofits in historically-marginalized communities that need more foundational help. $33,100,000 in grants will be awarded - with selected organizations awarded up to $100,000.

Additionally, if a tax-exempt charitable or social welfare group operating under a 501(c)(3) acts as a fiscal sponsor to small community-based groups (SCBG) that are not registered nonprofit organizations, those groups are also eligible for this grant funding.

“The NPI grant is an incredible opportunity for infrastructure and capacity building that will support the state’s small nonprofit community,” said Kodi Johnson, program manager at the Department of Local Affairs. “DOLA is urging qualifying organizations across the state to apply and continue to deepen the impact that nonprofits and their donors have on supporting historically underrepresented, underserved or under-resourced Coloradans.”

How to Apply

To apply, interested applicants should contact their geographically-appointed Regional Access Partner (RAP) directly for technical assistance and to learn more about the process, criteria and funding. RAPs are collaborating with DOLA to help select and administer grants within their particular regions, emphasizing a hyper-local focus on teamwork and support.

Organizations must provide a Unique Entity ID (UEI) number from the federal government and meet the eligibility requirements. Applications are submitted directly through one of the eight Regional Access Partners (RAPs), determined by the location of the organization’s headquarters. Funding is allocated for infrastructure needs only. Grant awardees will be notified by their RAP by January 31, 2024.

“Together DOLA and the RAP network are focused on ensuring that eligible nonprofit organizations in the state are aware of this opportunity,” added Johnson. “It is the Program’s goal to put forth the resources to help nonprofits apply and build capacity and infrastructure post COVID-19.”

Student Debt Relief Help!

17-year-old kids are not equipped to make financial decisions that will alter the course of their lives for years to come. In America, however, this is unfortunately the norm as millions of high schoolers choose to take out student loans to pay for their college tuition without fully grasping the implications of this decision on their later lives.

My name is Katie and I very recently married my best friend, Joel. We met at Pepperdine University, where we had a great experience, but unfortunately also accumulated over $200,000 in student loan debt between the two of us. While we are both grateful for the time we spent at Pepperdine and the people we met, we both agree that our 17-year-old selves did not fully understand that we would be placing our future selves in crippling debt.

I work a remote job and my husband is currently in the job search – applying to 20+ jobs per day, but still being turned down despite his Pepperdine degree. Once he finds a full-time job, we both will most likely also have to pick up a part-time minimum wage job to stay afloat and meet our monthly student loan payments totaling a little over $3,000. We are actively doing everything we can, but are still suffering under the stress and financial burden of our student loans.

We understand that our own poor financial decisions are the reason we are in such significant debt, but are still hoping to find some support and debt relief through our GoFundMe page. Any amount would help us!

Thank you so much!

In my opinion blood test is more accurate than a breath test. There are circumstances where a breath test can have erroneously high readings. For example, an erroneously high readings can occur in people with acid reflux. If you belch close to the time you take the test, you'll have a breath with an artificially high concentration of alcohol. In addition, breath testing machines operates under a scientific assumption that not all scientists agree with. On the other hand, blood testing is done with an instrument called gas chromatograph. This is an extremely accurate and standard instrument that's been used in chemistry for years.
