Get An MBA Or Buy A Franchise?

Many college undergrads and recent grads are contemplating whether to obtain an MBA. While often viewed as a career accelerator, an MBA does require major commitments of money and time.Usually, there are four determining factors: cost, time involved, return on investment and job market. But, now there’s a fifth consideration: get an MBA or spend the same amount of money to purchase a franchise? To pay for an MBA, most people work part-time at low wages while enrolled, deplete their personal or parents’ savings, and obtain student loans that must be repaid. However, going the franchise route can provide a fast and lifetime income that often exceeds the income of those with MBAs.After graduation, with a degree in Business Administration, from the University of Denver in December 2008, 23-year-old Tanner White considered getting his master’s degree. He then weighed his options.“I’d spend the same amount of money pursuing a MBA as I would to become a businessowner,” said Tanner. “If I got my master’s degree it wouldn’t guarantee a job, especially in today’s job market. Plus, I most certainly would not be my own boss.”Tanner purchased a portion of the Denver College Hunks Hauling Junk in June of 2009 from Nathaniel Bruno, who was the sole owner, and is very pleased with his investment. “I don’t think that pursuing a MBA is a bad idea” said Tanner, “but for me taking control of my future rather than hoping for opportunities obtained through a master’s degree seemed like the best path.”According to Nick Friedman, president of College Hunks Hauling Junk, several of his franchise owners are recent college graduates, which is not the typical franchise owner profile.”Rather than spending $95,000 and two years getting an MBA, more and more people are using the money to open a franchise,” said Friedman. “And, in less than two years they own a cash-producing asset.”Friedman and his business partner, Omar Soliman, brought a clean-cut image to junk removal by recruiting college students to haul away customers’ unwanted items. The temporary summer gig started in 2005 has grown into a multi-truck, multi-million-dollar franchise operation with locations across the country.“Franchising allows people to go into business for themselves but not by themselves,” Friedman said. “It offers a much more secure method of entrepreneurship.” New franchisees get five days of training at “Junk University” in Tampa to learn every aspect of the business. The company focuses on branding, marketing, community involvement and recycling efforts.Just like college, parents can invest in their child’s future by helping fund the business.Tanner’s parents helped their son by co-signing the loan for the franchise. “This is a great business,” said Tanner. “It’s fun, you do a lot for the community and can make a great deal of money if you follow the franchise formula.”For more information: www.collegehunksblog.com

Save the Ta Ta's

We are really excited! Our oldest daughter is going on a bike ride! I’ll bet you’re less than impressed with that.. This is sort of a special bike ride though, you see, six months ago Suzanne, at age 47, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. Five months ago she went through a very extensive double mastectomy. For the last four months she’s been going through six chemotherapy treatments, which of course claimed her hair, her eyelashes and eyebrows. But through the skill and dedication of the medical profession and her unlimited optimism and joy of life, next Sunday, August 30th, she will be riding in the Venus de Miles bike ride. And then the next day she starts six weeks of daily radiation treatments. Venus de Miles is the first Colorado women only bike ride. It’s a project of the Greenhouse Scholars Foundation which raises money to support high performing under resourced college students. It starts Sunday morning at 7 a.m., leaving from Prospect Park in Longmont, to Hygiene, to Lyons, to Jamestown and then back to Prospect Park. It can be a 35 mile, 50 mile or 65 mile ride. Suzanne of course has chosen the 65 mile ride. Being a big biker, Suzanne is in awe of Lance Armstrong and his horrific battle with testicular cancer. His efforts have raised millions for cancer research. That gave Suzanne the idea of putting together a sub group of riders for Venus de Miles who would ride for her cause , the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation (her type of cancer). I’ve always felt it somewhat ironic that a women who loses her breasts to cancer idolizes a man who nearly lost his testicles, but that’s cancer for you. Cancer hasn’t slowed this gal down. At last count there were 90 women signed up to ride as a Soozer’s Cruiser, all with her personally designed Jersey, with the motto, “Save the Ta Ta’s”. Additionally there will be another dozen or more ground support people wearing lime green (her favorite color) T shirts with the “Save the Ta Ta’s” legend. She has chosen as her “domestique” (assistant with honors or personal slave) her younger sister, Stephanie Busby of Lyons. Secretly, she confides that for just this one day, we should think of this as the Tour de Boulder County. And the winners won’t be wearing yellow jerseys down the Champs St. Vrain but will be all the women who win the cancer battle because of generous research donations. In her words it’s “if one person can make a difference, than together we can change the world”. We are so totally thankful to see her on that bike!!! . If you want to make a donation: TNBC Foundation, P.O. Box 204, Norwood, NJ 07648 Or visit www.tnbcfoundation.org Help us welcome the group to Lyons, should arrive around 8:00 A.M., Sunday, August 30th. Avoid delays. Present your college term papers neat, clean and beautifully. Read previous college term papers samples. In this way you can write college term papers that will win you guaranteed A+ grade. Hot Air Balloon Drops In!

2009_08_24_2984-balloon-land.jpg So after waking the kids, packing their lunches, and sending them off to school, it is a peaceful morning ... when I hear a "whoosh, whoosh, whoosh" from outside the open window. I realize it's a nearby hot-air balloon ... when they are close, you almost always hear them before you see them. I look to the West ... and it is coming right at my house ... and is very low. It drifts slightly to the South and he sets down in a skinny section of open space right behind my back yard - first time in the over 10 years I have lived here in Lafayette - bummer my kids had already left. alek P.S. I saw some nice pictures on MyTown from the airshow this weekend ... I missed it this year, but have some nifty pictures from last year's airshow at Rocky Mountain Airport.

Denver’s IAS Announces Launch of Statebridge

Integrated Asset Services®, LLC (IAS®) (www.iasreo.com), a leader in default management and residential collateral valuation, announced today the launch of Statebridge. The new company will provide custom, high-touch investor-focused servicing for the mortgage industry. Statebridge’s risk-based servicing will introduce a new adaptive approach designed to optimize investor success through tailored, high-touch servicing that maximizes return on performing and non-performing loans. This new approach to servicing was developed by the team that helped create the market for independent surveillance of mortgage securities. “Statebridge is defining a new category, “investor-focused servicing”, for the mortgage industry”, said Dave McCarthy, President and CEO of Integrated Asset Services. “In association with IAS’ valuation and REO capabilities, Statebridge will be the only servicing company to provide a ‘one-stop shop’ for mortgage servicing that is intensely focused on the needs of investors that have grown out of this new mortgage environment.” Responding to changing industry expectations and demands, Statebridge was founded on the principle that a combination of technology, deep industry experience, custom borrower touch, and a contrarian view of servicing can make a significant difference in the performance of mortgage portfolios. Company executives created the firm’s servicing practices from the ground up, relying on years of experience in overseeing hundreds of servicers and roughly three trillion dollars worth of mortgages. “Statebridge is not a company that believes in doing things one way because that’s how they’ve always been done,” said Kevin Kanouff, President of Statebridge. “We work closely with our clients to create a servicing strategy unique to their investment philosophy for the greatest return. We treat borrowers with respect and our clients’ assets as if they were our own.” The company has been designed to provide custom special servicing of both distressed and non-distressed mortgages. In addition to unbiased service advice on existing mortgages, Statebridge experts are equipped to offer collateral analysis, fiduciary review, pool level analysis, and pricing advocacy for new investments in mortgages. With the Statebridge launch, the IAS suite of mortgage servicing products, which already includes REO management and disposition, collateral valuation, conditioned valuation, and mortgage due diligence, will effectively bridge the entire loan life cycle. “Our attitude is that there should always be a solution that is in the best interests of both the borrower and the investor,” said Kanouff. “We’re looking forward to our association with IAS and its “no excuses” philosophy to bring complete and exceptional solutions to the residential asset management industry.”

Integrated Asset Services(www.iasreo.com) today released its IAS360 House Price Index (HPI). Based upon the timeliest and most granular data available in the industry, the index for national house prices moved ahead another 1.2% in June. With June’s gains--the fourth consecutive positive month--the U.S. housing benchmark advanced 2.7% for full second quarter 2009, virtually offsetting the 2.6% decline across the first three months of the year. The IAS360 HPI is still down 16.7% from its high in June 2007. Like May, all four U.S. census regions reported positive numbers for the month and in like order. For June, the Northeast was up 1.9%, the Midwest 1.8%, the South 1.2%, and the West 0.4%. While values showed improvement in neighborhoods across the country, most upper end counties remained mired in a deep slump. In June, price declines continued to accelerate for Putnam County, NY, Morris County, NJ, and Howard County, MD. “I think that a lot of this valuation disparity reflects the immediate effects of Washington's housing-rescue plan,” said Dave McCarthy, President and CEO of Integrated Asset Services. “Everything so far has helped spur sales of lower-priced homes, which, at least in the short run, is producing winners and losers.” Among the nation’s 10 largest metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) reported, only the Las Vegas housing market continued to slide with a drop of another 1.8% for the month. Boston and Chicago followed solid May numbers with increases of 2.9% and 1.3%, respectively, as did the big California MSAs, with Los Angeles gaining 2.2%, San Francisco up 1.7%, and San Diego 1.4%. “The improvement in the more traditional neighborhoods is encouraging, but it’s easy to think there may be trouble lurking further up the food chain,” said McCarthy. “If there is to be another decrease in home prices, my bet is it’s going to come from the top. One way or the other, the IAS360 will be the first to report it.” The IAS360 House Price Index is a comprehensive housing index tracking monthly change in the median sales price of detached single-family residences across the U.S. The index, based on all arms-length transactions, tracks data of 15,000 neighborhoods, that roll up to report on the changes in 360 counties, nine census divisions, four regions, and the nation overall. The IAS360 House Price Index is delivered on a monthly basis.

Obama & Co Trafficking in Illicit Drugs

Asked if his New York Crime Family was dealing in narcotics, John Gotti replied: "No, who can compete with the government?"Here Read:+ DynCorp: Beyond the Rule of Law / Colombia Journal:--"Despite the fact that a company contracted by the U.S. government to carry out its program of fumigating and eradicating coca crops in Colombia has been caught smuggling heroin out of the country, no attempts have been made to bring it to justice.""These discoveries might only be the tip of the iceberg as DynCorp’s activities are conducted in absolute secrecy and appear to be beyond the jurisdiction of any governmental body. A high ranking police official in Colombia, who has known about DynCorp since their 1993 arrival in Colombia, told Semana magazine, 'no authority, whether the Civil Aviation Authority, police or army, is authorized to search DynCorp’s planes. Nobody knows what they carry on their return to the United States because they are untouchable.'”"According to the Guardian Weekly, the U.S. government’s contract with DynCorp is full of ambiguities, giving the company even more leeway to avoid oversight by both Colombian and U.S. authorities. This not only increases the opportunities for DynCorp employees to personally profit from drug-trafficking, but also enables the company to conduct counter-insurgency operations for the U.S. government that go far beyond their official role of assessing and implementing the fumigation of illicit crops."+ Breaking the Grip? Obstacles to Justice for Paramilitary Mafias in Colombia / Human Rights Watch:--"Eric Holder would have a troubling conflict of interest in carrying out this work in light of his current work as defense lawyer for Chiquita Brands ...""Chiquita has already admitted in a criminal case that it paid the AUC around $1.7 million in a 7-year period and that it further provided the AUC with a cache machine guns as well.""Indeed, Holder himself, using his influence as former deputy attorney general under the Clinton Administration, helped to negotiate Chiquita's sweetheart deal with the Justice Department in the criminal case against Chiquita."+ Banana Cream Pie / The Next Hurrah:--"I asked him about the drugs-for-weapons exchange and the Chiquita freighters.... 'Look, there were drugs, and there were times that they sent drugs for weapons. They sent the kilos of drugs, and from out there, those duros said we are going to send this many kilos of drugs and I need this many rifles,' Lorenzo said."+ Dirty Tricks, Inc.: The DynCorp-Government Connection Conspiracy Digest:--"Even more sinister is the fact that DynCorp manages email and information systems for many federal investigation agencies like FBI, DOJ and SEC. What does that mean? Whenever criminal behavior is detected, DynCorp controls the information, giving it defacto power to subvert the process of law and cover-up corporate-government criminal activities.""Dudley Mecum, DynCorp Director since 1988, who just happens to also be the managing director of ... There were "signs that some banks were rescued in that way."Now consider how, in USA v. Juan Vincent Castrillon (2nd Circuit Homepage / Decisions / Sotomayor Dissent), Judge Sonia Sotomayor stated:"I agree fully with the majority that there was ample evidence establishing the existence of a large-scale, international money laundering conspiracy. I disagree, however, with the majority's conclusion that there was sufficient evidence for a rational juror to conclude, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Huezo had the requisite knowledge and specific intent to launder the the proceeds of specified unlawful activity so as to support his conviction for money laundering or conspiracy."Yet the facts of the case are:Huezo drove a fellow conspirator and a suitcase containing $500,000 to a meeting with an undercover cop.On a latter occasion, surveillance disclosed that Huezo started his Jeep then left it running while positioning himself so he could see the both front of the house and the street, whereupon another conspirator emerged with a suitcase containing another $500,000 which he placed in the back of the Jeep for a second delivery.Huezo had $6,000 cash in his possession.+ National Drug Intelligence Center Puerto Rico/US Virgin Islands High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Drug Market Analysis 2009 (USDOJ):"The San Juan High Intensity Financial Crime Area (HIFCA) reports that the leaders of high-profile money laundering organizations based in Central American and South American countries maintain money laundering cells in Puerto Rico and the USVI. The cells launder the illicit proceeds generated by traffickers operating in the HIDTA region and, in doing so, use financial institutions, money remitters, shell corporations, bulk cash smuggling, and other methods, such as the Colombian Black Market Peso Exchange."+ FALN, Holder, and Obama: The Price Paid by One 'Ordinary American' / Human Events:New Year's Eve, 1982: NYPD's bomb squad rushed to headquarters at One Police Plaza--a Puerto Rican Independance Group (FALN) bombing had destroyed the entrance...A total of 4 FALN bombs exploded in a single hour that night--including at the Manhattan FBI office and a federal courthouse in Brooklyn...Though Puerto Rico voted to remain a part of the US, the FALN waged war on America with bombings, kidnappings, threats and intimidation.
