ENGLEWOOD, CO (October 29, 2010) – With wildfires burning in Boulder, Allstate (NYSE: ALL) is already responding and bringing resources into the area to help policyholders. But right now, safety must take precedence.

It’s vital to listen to instructions from local authorities. If nearby residents have been evacuated, or if evacuations may soon be a possibility, homeowners should prepare immediately for a quick departure. If it is safe to do so, Allstate encourages homeowners to consider the following steps when preparing to evacuate.

Before leaving the home…

Collect all important papers and documents. This includes banking, insurance, and financial information, as well as bills and checkbooks.

Think carefully about what items are easily replaceable by insurance and what items are not, like family heirlooms, keepsakes, and pictures.

If you don’t have an up-to-date home inventory, walk through your home with a video or still camera. At the same time, make a list of what items you want to take during an evacuation. An inventory can help facilitate the claim process.

Contact your Allstate agent to determine whether your homeowners policy provides for additional living expenses if you’ve been evacuated from your home under mandatory orders.

If leaving the home…

Respect local authorities and law enforcement decisions on when to evacuate and when it is safe to return home.

Notify neighbors and friends of your intended destination, and exchange contact information.

Mastering the Private Store in Aion

The Private Store is a unique and highly valuable tool that Aion players need to get used to and ultimately master if they are going to develop the Kinah they need to be at the top of their game. There are a number of ways to go about doing this. However, the most important thing to remember is that without a centralized location as with an auction house or the Trade Broker, you must do a lot of the hard work in selling your goods and getting attention. If you can become a good merchant with highly desired products and good prices, you will be much more successful than most other merchants in the game.LocationFinding a good location for your Private Store is an absolute must. To start with, you need to choose a hotpot that will allow you to target very specific items that your customers will want. For example, if you set up shop outside of an instance, you can sell those particular players the alchemy and cooking items they need to run that instance. If you set up shop next to a quest NPC who requires a certain item, you can make a great profit from buying and reselling that item to those players. Just make sure wherever you set up shop is full of your ideal customers. The Right PricesIf you meet a demand, you can usually ask for a larger profit from your items, but you will need to be careful not to gouge anyone out of their Kinah. Even if you get away with it, most players will eventually recognize they got a bad deal and make a point of not going back to you for further products. You want to develop a reputation for fair pricing, not opportunistic gouging. How to MarketYou can set a message for your store, but make sure it represents you and what you have to offer. Be specific and describe benefits players might get from dealing with you as opposed to other players. Additionally, make sure not to resort to badmouthing other players or to spamming the chat channels to draw attention. These things all fail to work more times than not.Gaining Kinah in Aion is a multi-faceted process that starts and ends with a good Private Store. Set up in a good location with solid prices and a good marketing strategy and you will ultimately do very well for yourself, above and beyond what you might expect from your fellow players.Aion Kinah GuideThe Aion Kinah Guide – Scam or Real Deal?

Ecotech Institute, the first and only college focused entirely on preparing America’s workforce for careers in renewable energy and sustainable design, today announced new school policies that will give active military, veterans and family members greater access to the school’s green collar job training and development programs.

Ecotech Institute, which is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, launched in April 2010 with seven highly practical degree programs and one certificate program that provide graduates with skills that are valued by today’s renewable energy employers. Nearly ten percent of Ecotech students are active military or veterans.

“We have staff, board members and students from military backgrounds and our curriculum is well-designed for people who bring military experience to the table,” says Michael Seifert, president of Ecotech Institute. “As current and ex-military members seek employment in this tough economy, cleantech careers offer excellent opportunities for job stability and pride.”

Ecotech Institute offers the following military student policies:

• Transfer of training and experience. Students may transfer up to 75 percent of the required credits for their program of study. This includes military training and/or experience, CLEP general examinations with a passing score of 50, CLEP subject examinations, DANTES subject standardized tests, College Board advanced placement exams, and professional certification exams.

• Student Deployment Policy. Military students called to active duty or deployed from their home station can withdraw from the currently enrolled term and receive a refund of tuition charges/payments related to the term.

• Waived application fees. All application and re-application fees are waived for active duty or honorably discharged veterans, spouses, or qualified dependents.

• Waived Tuition. Subject to availability, active duty or veteran students and their spouses or qualified dependents enrolling at Ecotech Institute may be eligible for one of the following tuition waivers.

o Patriot’s Service Waiver: Active duty service members who receive tuition assistance may receive an institutional tuition waiver up to the difference between the maximum tuition assistance rate published by the Military Service and the current published tuition for their enrolled program at Ecotech Institute for up to 8 credit hours per term for undergraduate programs or 4 credit hours per term for graduate programs. Active duty spouses may be eligible for a waiver of up to 15 percent of tuition and fees.

o Post 9/11 GI Bill Waiver Program: Veterans may receive an institutional tuition waiver for their enrolled program at Ecotech Institute in states where Ecotech Institute participates in the Yellow Ribbon program. Post 9/11 veterans not eligible for the Yellow Ribbon program may be eligible for up to a 15 percent tuition waiver during their course of study/program at Ecotech Institute.

o Armed Forces Recognition Waiver: All honorably discharged service members serving before September 11, 2001, including inactive or retired service members as well as military spouses, may be eligible for up to a 15 percent waiver of tuition per term.

Eating Recovery Center (www.EatingRecoveryCenter.com), a national eating disorders recovery program providing comprehensive treatment for anorexia and bulimia, today announced that it will open a new behavioral hospital specifically designed to provide eating disorders care to children and adolescents. The hospital is slated to open in late November in Denver’s Lowry neighborhood.

Eating Recovery Center’s newest treatment program will be led by a world-renowned expert in child and adolescent eating disorders, Ovidio Bermudez, MD, FAAP, FSAM, FAED, CEDS. Dr. Bermudez will serve as the hospital’s new medical director. It will operate under the direction of the treatment center’s CEO and co-founder, Kenneth L. Weiner, MD, CEDS, and its chief clinical officer, Craig Johnson, PhD, FAED, CEDS.

“The child and adolescent hospital will offer comprehensive treatment for eating disorders for children and adolescents, males and females. Our comprehensive treatment model will blend traditional approaches like medical stabilization, psychiatric stabilization and nutritional rehabilitation with new approaches like Behavioral Family Therapy in the partial hospitalization phase of the treatment experience,” explains Dr. Bermudez. “We have carefully chosen an outstanding staff and, in addition, will use technologies to enhance patient care. Our goal is to be a center of excellence and to offer the best treatment to the patients and families we care for.”

The child and adolescent facility will offer a full spectrum of treatment options for children and adolescents ages 10 to 17, including inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient and outpatient services. In addition to treating eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia, the treatment center will address “eating disturbances,” which include such behaviors as extreme pickiness, food fears and food avoidance.

Eating Recovery Center’s multidisciplinary treatment team will work closely with families and referring professionals to collaborate on traditional treatment experiences such as nutritional rehabilitation, medical care and psychotherapy. Eating Recovery Center will also introduce such innovative approaches as:

• Utilizing technology, such as heart monitoring, movement monitoring and biofeedback, to monitor for overactive behaviors and manage anxiety in children and adolescents.
• Introducing Behavioral Family Therapy at a later point in the treatment continuum – after a traditional phase of treatment in 24-hour care – to allow patients to manage nutritional deficiencies and medical issues prior to collaboration with family.

“Recent studies have shown that the involvement of family in the treatment process has a positive impact on recovery,” explains Dr. Weiner. “We will work closely with families to integrate recovery-focused behaviors and sustainable changes into family life, enabling family members and loved ones to become agents of change for our patients.”

Eating Recovery Center’s child and adolescent hospital will be located at 8140 E. 5th Ave., Denver, Colo., and is now accepting patients from across the country.

"An Affair to Remember" lives up to its name

Flash back to the 1950's where the times were hopping with swing dancing, poodle skirts and leather jackets. Jeremy Bloom's Wish of a Lifetime (JBWOL) hosted "An Affair to Remember Sock Hop 2010" on Oct. 16 in both Denver and Boulder. The event was in celebration of founder, Jeremy Bloom's grandmother Donna Wheeler's 85th Birthday.

JBWOL and Brookdale Senior Living sponsored the free event for seniors 65 years and older. The event was designed as an opportunity for seniors to get out and about and enjoy themselves. The afternoon was filled with music, dancing and food.

Ten lucky seniors were randomly selected to receive makeovers prior to the event provided by Amanda Cameron and Ali Austin, who flew in from California. They were all dolled up just in time for the dancing to start.

In Denver, Swing Unlimited provided entertainment throughout the afternoon. The United States Air Force showed up to dance with the seniors. Even Elvis and Marilyn Monroe made a surprise appearance and the seniors were so excited to see the stars there.

Root beer floats were served and the ice cream was donated from Sweet Action Ice Cream.

When seniors arrived, they were pinned with boutonnieres from Fleur Décor and Lifetouch photography was on site to take photographs that were given to them at the end of the night. Seniors in attendance also received special goodie bags.
It was a different scene in Boulder with a 15-piece band, "All Star Jazz," providing entertainment. It was a more elegant formal affair with a chocolate fountain, which was a big hit with the seniors. The seniors were able to socialize and relax while listening to the band play. There was one senior who had her dancing shoes on the whole time and tried to get everyone grooving to the beat.

The event was a success at both locations and lived up to its name, an affair to remember.

Georgia B., one of the seniors in attendance at the Denver location, wrote a thank you note saying how much she enjoyed the event.
"Thank you so much for a fabulous day," she wrote.

Special thanks to Brookdale Senior Living, Swing Unlimited, United States Air Force, Sweet Action Ice Cream, Fleur Décor, Lifetouch photography, Advance Food, Country Buffet, Entegra, Royal Cup, Tagawa Gardens, Cameo Club, Direct Supply, Eon, Staples, Tyson, City Bakery, Whole Foods Market, Ecolab, Fortune Valley, Piñon Management, and Kevin Medina Group.

Hard lessons of life....

I don't know where to begin... as a writer I know the beginning is a good place. When I became homeless I had brought my then four year-old son with me from Texas to California... I had no idea why I made the move; yet I was 32 and still living at home. My pregnancy was(thankfully) an easy one...
I always felt as if my mother was ashamed of me because I had not bothered to marry the father. Well, I couldn't. He told me he was in the middle of getting divorced. Being as young and naieve as I was I fell for it.
What can I say? Love really is blind... I think my son's father is at least nine years older than I am; I'm not sure. What mattered to me was to get as far away from my mother as I possibly could. No, I didn't have a plan; had I had one my life may have turned out differently.
Be that as it may this is not my story. My story, in Colorado, begins in October of '06... It was going to be my first winter. I got off the bus at Broadway and asked where I could find housing. I was directed to Thistle Housing.... They could not help me; but the woman told me about the boulder Shelter for the homeless.
"Well, where's that?" You need to get to North Broadway..." Which way is north, and where was Broadway? After figuring out what direction to go... I made my way to Pearl Street and hung a right at the correct street(I hoped).
I won't bore the reader with too many details... but as often as happens in my life people I now found myself in the company of started coming to me and lamenting their woes...
I must say that as I listened two distinct stories, from diverse people, started to become common-place.... 1) Men had to suffer through the "lottery". Basically a numbered "chip" is drawn and your name is written beside that number... sounds fair enough; yes? Now, women get into the Shelter no matter what.
Let's say a man has been standing outside since five when the gate opens. He receives the number 105... Six-thirty rolls around and this man's name still hasn't been called... Another man comes in on one of the busses... his number is four, and he gets right in... starting to see the unfairness?
2) The second story to emerge was one from people who turn in their medications.... At the Shelter there is a "Supply Window" and those who take meds are to turn them in... I have seen with my own eyes people turning in a full bottle only to get it back the next day, half empty or less.
Now, I don't know what's running through your mind right now, but some of these are older folk on pain killers and heart medicine.
They're homeless; yet most of them are the same age as your mother and father that may or may not be in nursing homes...
A last story I almost didn't mention because it is just too unconsciable....
While I was in the Shelter myself I saw just a small part of this.... Apparently some of the food that would be donated would be picked over by Staff members. I've been told many turkeys, steaks, and other delctables never made it on to the menu...
Friends of mine still there see much of this food, for the Homeless, end up in the garbage right out in back... what do they get fed.... cheap stuff.. Any of you out there have food allergies? Are you gluten intolerant? Are you allergic to eggs or peanuts?
Do yourself a favor and don't eat at the Shelter.... How I managed to survive i'll never know... My stomach was so bloated when I left, I thought I was pregnant... No, I wasn't but you see my point? This Thanks giving if you want to make a Thanksgiving meal for the Shelter, make it once you're there.
Staff doesn't need to help; they should be busy in other endeavors. This has long been a burden for me to write this and to get this off my chest. God bless!!

These days, there is a lot of talk on the internet that the solution for a slow computer is to use a registry cleaner, and RegCure is by far the most popular product in that area. But does it work, or is it a scam?

First, let's look at what the registry is. It is a large database containing a number of important files and entries that Windows must have in order to run properly. But as time goes on, too many files get added to that registry, and it ends up getting too big, causing other applications to be affected. This is when you see the dreaded blue screen of death, freeze ups and even crashes

A registry cleaner will fix these problems. It will scan your PC for errors, repair them, and prevent them from returning again in the future. RegCure is the best registry repair product out there, because it finds the most accurate number of errors, and also has a nice feature that shuts off programs that are running in the background that you never use

Is Bigfoot in the Colorado Rockies?

My partner and I have both had several strange encounters in the hills of Colorado over the last few years. It has motivated us to form Sasquatch Investigations of the Rockies, a research group based in Parker, Colorado. We are both avid outdoors-men and spend up to three full weeks in the forests annually. Our encounters include full visuals at fairly close range, vocalizations like whoops, growls, roars, snow tracks with 6'-0" strides with 18"+ prints, etc. We are very sure these elusive creature exist, but are wondering how many other people have had strange things happen to them while out in this beautiful state. For examples of the weird stuff we have come across, check out our website at www.sasquatchinvestigations.org or if you have had something happen, we would love to hear about it at reports@sasquatchinvestigations.org.

Why all the unclaimed scholarships?

There's free money, and then again there is money that costs very little.

I'm like anyone else. As soon as I create an email account, I become a magnet for every world cure to pass through a deceptive mind. I get offers to cure my credit card debt, of which I have none, free money the government is trying to give away, and processes to make unbelieveable money online for only hours a week. These electronic do-gooders are actually better said the best of fisher men. Fishing is about luring an underwater creature away from what is real to to what only looks real, hooking it for someone else's dinner, the oldest of "bait and switch" scams. It is also why many spam emails are known to have "fishing" sequences attached.

But here's a deeper question. Why do so many students, or is it schools, pass up scholarships with minimal work attached? Why are there scholarships that require no more than a reference or two, and a specific direction academically, getting disregarded -- possibly for no more reason than they only offer a couple hundred dollars per award?

Imagine being the "average student" trying to finance school, struggled through high school, watching scholarships go by because they apply to the high achievers. Guess what, RE-1 Valley students. You're not out of the running, especially if you're considering education, and attending Northeastern Junior College on the way. Even at NJC, every little bit helps, and if you're attending NJC, $250 per year could go a long way.

Contact me if this is you. The Re-1 Foundation may have a check with your name on it.

Superior Elementary Raises $27,600 at Annual Fall Fling
Annual PTA-Sponsored Event Will Fund Educational Enrichment at the School

Superior, Colo., October 14, 2010 – In an example of how PTAs at Boulder Valley School District schools are stepping up to support their fund-strapped schools, Superior Elementary (SES) is pleased to announce that it raised more than $27,600 at its Fall Fling event, held Friday, Sept. 24 at the school. This is a 30% increase over last year’s Fall Fling.

The money raised will fund a variety of educational enrichment activities, including staff development, teacher grants, field trips, extra-curricular activities like the Chess Club and the Summer Reading program, classroom equipment like document cameras and spelling books, and covering basics like copier paper.

“The support of our community means so much to us in these challenging financial times,” said Mary Hausermann, principal at Superior Elementary. “We are able to continue to offer extracurricular activities, field trips and professional development opportunities as a result.”

The money was raised through bids from more than 130 donated silent auction items – which included everything from Broncos tickets to art created by students – traditional carnival games like a Cake Walk, and raffles for items like an iPad and special student events like ‘Principal for a Day.’ Carnival games like the Pie Toss and Dunk Tank featured teachers volunteering to get the pies in the face and plunges into cold water.

It took more than 250 volunteer hours – from more than 50% of SES families – to pull off this successful fund-raising event, which was attended by nearly 450 SES families.

“We are blessed with a very active and engaged PTA at Superior Elementary,” said Kari Johnson, President of Superior Elementary PTA. “Even in this economy, our community of parents is dedicated to this school and our kids. It is an inspiration.”

About SES

Superior Elementary School is a neighborhood school offering an outstanding educational program to over 600 students in Kindergarten through 5th grades. Our mission is to encourage all students to reach their potential by engaging them in challenging learning experiences. We prepare our students to think independently, logically, and creatively; to enjoy learning; to be respectful of others; and to act as responsible citizens.

Family Learning Center Raises $165,000 at Annual Auction
Annual Penfield Tate Humanitarian Awards Dinner and Auction Exceeds Fundraising Goal and Successfully Kicks Off End-of-Year Fundraising Campaign
Boulder, Colo., October 12, 2010 - The Family Learning Center, a Boulder non-profit dedicated to encouraging successful lifelong learning and economic self-sufficiency for families of diverse cultures and limited incomes, announced today that it raised more than $165,000 at its 16th annual Penfield Tate Humanitarian Awards Dinner and Auction held on Friday, September 24 at the Stadium Club in Boulder.
"We are very pleased and grateful to our sponsors and the Boulder community for helping us surpass our fundraising goal for this event," said Brenda Lyle, founder and executive director of The Family Learning Center. The Family Learning Center is an important part of the solution to ensure that minority and low-income students master the skills necessary to compete in school and in life.”
Also at the event, the family of the late Penfield Tate – which includes his widow Ellen, and children Gail, Penfield III, Paula and Rosalynn Tate – was awarded the 2010 Penfield Tate Humanitarian Award for their outstanding humanitarian work.
The annual Penfield Tate Humanitarian Award was created by The Family Learning Center to honor the memory and legacy of the late Penfield Tate, a former mayor of Boulder and civil rights lawyer.
In the coming months, The Family Learning Center will launch several holiday drives for low-income families in Boulder, including a toy drive, a winter coat drive for kids, an adopt-a-family program and other efforts to raise funds to provide quality early childhood and college prep programs for low-income children throughout Boulder and Broomfield Counties. All Family Learning Center fundraising efforts directly support its early childhood programs, school age programs, adult education, community support and technology and literacy programs for more than 1,200 low-income children and their families in Boulder.
About The Family Learning Center

Walking for a Free Palestine

More than 20 people gathered Saturday in Boulder to walk for Palestinian rights and a more equitable U.S. policy toward Israel and Palestine. The walkers drew cheers, thumbs-ups, and peace signs from onlookers as they marched silently along Canyon Boulevard, carrying a banner bearing the words, “Freedom and Equality for Palestine.”

“It was very successful,” remarked Joe Seago, co-organizer of the Free Palestine Walk. “There were far more supporters than nay-sayers. I lost track of how many [car] honks we got.”

The walk brought in pro-Palestinian activists from a number of different groups, including Friends of Sabeel Colorado, the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, and the University of Colorado’s Muslim Student Association. Seago, who participated in last year’s Free Palestine Walk in New York City that boasted over 200 walkers, was excited to meet fellow supporters in the Denver/Boulder community.

“It’s a great way to make connections,” he explained. “Not just networking with other activists, but also making people on the street aware of what’s going on in Palestine. Several people approached us and asked for fliers.”

Jan Miller, a member of the Palestinian Christian humanitarian group Friends of Sabeel Colorado, walked to “raise awareness about issues underlying the peace process.” Miller has visited Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and has seen first-hand the effects the conflict has had on the region.

“I’m disappointed in our elected officials in Colorado for supporting Israel rather than supporting a just peace that would allow Israelis and Palestinians to live in security,” she said.

The peaceful demonstration was just one of more than 45 across the country as part of an effort by the lobbying group American Association for Palestinian Equal Rights (AAPER) to raise money for a nationwide advertising campaign. The non-profit organization works to educate Americans about the realities of the Israeli-Palestinian situation and influence the United States government’s unbalanced policies regarding the decades-old conflict.

According to the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, Congress has given over $100 billion to Israel since 1948, the year the Jewish state was founded, much of which has been in military aid. The Free Palestine Walks served to raise much-needed public awareness of the dire conditions under which 4 million Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank currently live.

Greg Faulx, whose wife is Palestinian, had an eye-opening encounter with a curious bystander. “A man came up and asked me what we were walking for, and I told him it was for Palestinian rights. He said he had no idea what was going on between Israel and Palestine,” he recalled. “People just don’t know.”

The art of papermaking has remained sustainable for centuries, and I discover new creative possibilities with every sheet I make.” says Wendy Rochman. “The random amalgamation of color and texture varieties I am able to create in paper are reminiscent of the archetypal patterns I see all around me in dappled sunlight, granite mountains, wispy clouds; in all of nature.”
