Ryan and Amy Green are parents to four boys between the ages of 2 and 7. In January 2010, they received some bad news. One-year-old Joel had cancer.

Joel had an Atypical Teratoid/ Rhabdoid Tumor (AT/RT) that was successfully removed. After the surgery he was scheduled to undergo 54 weeks of treatment including chemotherapy and radiation. He never finished treatment because 10 months later he had a tumor recurrence.

Joel Evan Green was declared terminal and the Greens were referred to Hospice and they were advised to sign a do not resuscitate form. However, Joel did not die. This doesn’t mean the last few years haven’t been difficult; Joel has had six tumor recurrences, but he isn’t dead.

A year ago, over lunch, Ryan and Amy first discussed the idea of writing a book.

“We were discussing that he’s not dead yet,” recalls Ryan Green. “And then realized it was an interesting idea because we’re all not dead yet. That’s where the seed for the book first came from.”

While the name may seem startling, the concept of death is very real to the Green family. They’ve seen doctors shocked and thrilled when Joel does better than expected, but they know there are no guarantees. They have found peace in the middle of all the ups and downs.

“These past three years could have been overshadowed by death, but instead they’ve been marked by joy and love.” said Green.

The fact that Joel is alive is something the Green’s want to shout out to the world.

“This book is about choosing to love somebody you know you can lose,” said Green. “We wanted to talk about this while we were still involved in it, not afterward, because I think you find out who you are and what you believe right in the middle of a trial.”

The Green’s book, “He’s Not Dead Yet” faces these painful concepts head on. It is written from the perspective of an older brother, and walks through the story from the dire prognosis of terminal cancer to the fact that, a few years later, this little boy isn’t dead yet. He keeps living, blowing out birthday candles, riding his trike and opening Christmas presents.

While “He’s Not Dead Yet” looks like a children’s book, it will be up to individual parents to decide whether or not it is appropriate for their child. The Greens are acutely aware that everyone is battling something, whether it’s childhood cancer or some other disease or difficult life issue.

The book is about how the Greens have chosen to face their situation, and they hope it will be a comfort to others struggling with their own difficult life journey.

You can read about the Green’s journey at www.joelevangreen.com. “He’s Not Dead Yet” is available at www.hesnotdeadyet.com. For more information about the content of this press release please email RyanGreen8@gmail.com or call 303-249-8245.

App helps sales reps boost productivity by accessing customer relationship management system on iOS, Android, and Blackberry

February 19, 2013. Fort Collins, Colo. – Front Row Solutions (FRS), a customer relationship management (CRM) system built around the needs of sales representatives and sales managers, has released the newest version of its Front Row Sales Pro Application for iOS, Android, and Blackberry devices. The app combines the fastest, easiest mobile reporting tool available with real-time, robust information for sales managers. Sales Pro allows sales reps to spend less time on administrative tasks, gives them productivity tools and customer insights on the go, and frees them up to do what they do best – sell!

Front Row Sales Pro is unique, built for sales reps by sales reps. FRS heard the complaints from reps in the field that existing CRM systems were too difficult to use, and spent four years continuously improving Sales Pro to fit the needs of sales reps and sales managers. The result is an app that reps can learn in minutes, then use to complete a sales report in less than 30 seconds, giving the rep and the sales manager real-time information on every call, customer contact, and sale.

Front Row Solutions customers experience a 95% compliance rate among sales reps using Front Row Sales Pro, and FRS offers a 90-day trial free of charge to prove this level of compliance. “Because of its ease of use and sales rep engaging features, I get 100% compliance from my sales reps every day,” says Michael Gaerter, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at RouteOne Canada.

Version one of Front Row Sales Pro focused on fast, easy mobile reports from the field. This new, updated version provides sales reps with key productivity tools and customer insights while on the go. It allows sales reps to review account information on each client, prepare for their next sales call, and send a report to the sales manager in less than 30 seconds after a call has ended, from any mobile device. Sales Pro’s better follow up system means increased sales for the company and increased productivity and commissions for the rep.

With Front Row Sales Pro, the sales manager is virtually in the field with their reps, instantly receiving sales reports after each call. The new version gives sales managers up-to-the-minute information from their sales reps after each contact, in real-time. Sales Pro allows the sales manager to work closely with their reps to improve individual performance and customize training for their sales team. Now the sales manager can know exactly what is going on in the field at all times.

Back in Boulder

Happy to say I am living back in Boulder (Gunbarrel) again after living in Estes Park for almost 15 years.  I first came to Boulder in 1961 to attend CU and now am teaching online courses for Continuing Education at CU.  While living in Estes I was evacuated for a fire last summer and then was inundated with smoke from the Fern Lake fire most of the fall.  Too much stress and too much to lose, so I moved.  Have been enjoying Twin Lakes trails, Walden Ponds/Sawmill Ponds, and Niwot trails.  Recently saw nesting owls on Twin Lakes trail and met Bodo Blaczak who told me about this website.  Check out his photos of owls, eagles, horses, and other sites around town.  Check out my black bear photos from Estes.

The American Cancer Society is getting big under the big top with their Kick Off celebration for the 2013 Relay For Life of East Boulder held March 9, 2 p.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church. In 2012, the Relay For Life of East Boulder raised more than $95,000 for the American Cancer Society. With the theme “Under The Big Top”, Relay For Life of East Boulder will be Dreaming Bigger, Hoping Bigger and Relaying Bigger for 2013!  The 2013 East Boulder Relay will begin on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Monarch High School through 7 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Relay For Life began with one man in Tacoma, Washington in 1985 and is now a worldwide movement to end cancer, with 5100 events across America that raised more than $400 million dollars in 2012. These funds help the American Cancer Society achieve their mission of eliminating cancer as a major health concern.

In honor of those who battle cancer 24 hours a day, team members typically take turns walking the track throughout the night. For those not walking, there is constant action to keep everyone busy. From entertainment, food and games to touching ceremonies and stories of inspiration, there is something for everyone at Relay For Life of East Boulder.

At each event, we celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer through our Survivor's Lap and survivor recognition. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight. We also remember loved ones lost to the disease, and honor those who have survived and are currently battling the disease with our Luminaria Ceremony. At Relay, people who have walked alongside those battling cancer can grieve and find healing. Finally, we fight back against cancer because we want to put an end to the disease. Relay helps individuals make a commitment to save lives by taking up the fight.

Are you the Next J.K. Rowling?

Looking for the next J.K. Rowling

Broomfield, Colorado—On March 2, 2013 Three power-house literary agents will team together to help aspiring children’s book novelists discover how to break into publishing.  Those who register for the event will enjoy a rare opportunity to move beyond the veil of the internet and meet three agents: Sara Megibow from Nelson Literary, Kate Schafer Testerman of KT Literary, and Terrie Wolfe of AKA Literary.

J.K. Rowling, the popular author of the Harry Potter series, was rejected twelve times before she found her publisher.  Furthermore most publishers won’t engage with authors who don’t have an agent representing them. The Rocky Mountain chapter of the SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) has arranged for the three agents to offer a workshop at the Broomfield Public Library.  Aspiring children’s book novelists will learn the in’s and out’s of publishing including how to pitch their project. This is a quick way to move past the slush pile. After learning the art of the pitch, each writer will be afforded the valuable chance to pitch directly to an agent, and then receive immediate feedback on what works and what doesn’t.  Furthermore, the agent panel will read the first page of each participant’s manuscript in a session called “First Pages” and again participants will receive immediate feedback. This is an incredible opportunity to meet executives in the industry, and it’s a valuable chance to ask questions and learn.

The event takes place on Saturday March 2nd from 9:30am-4:30pm at the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library located at 3 Community Park Road in Broomfield, Colorado. Space is very limited and pre-registration is required (registration deadline is February 25, 2013).  The cost is $79 for SCBWI members and $100 for non-members.

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED:  This event is geared toward Middle Grade and YA Novelist.  To register please visit http://tinyurl.com/ak8j5b2 or contact the registrar, Carrie Seidel, at whispurr_s@hotmail.com.  To learn more about the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, please visit www.scbwi.org more on Agent day at http://www.scbwi.org/Resources/Documents/2013%20AGENT%20DAY.pdf

Saratoga - "The Turning Point"

The 2012-2013 CAR National Theme is "Saratoga - The Turning Point."  31040782499?profile=original

Quoted from the National Program Packet - "The Battle of Saratoga was actually comprised of two battles, taking place 18 days apart in the fall of 1777. But what set the scene for these clashes? Imagine yourself in the colonies in the early days of 1777. The joy and excitement of the Declaration had passed and all you had seen and heard of were many British victories and few American ones. It did not matter what part of the colonies you lived in, the British victory could be sensed. General John Burgoyne had set out from Canada to cut off New England from the rest of the colonies and force it into submission. It seemed the Revolution was doomed to fail, but then there was a spark. General John Stark led the Americans to a decisive victory at Bennington, which caused morale to soar and a surge of men joined the fight.

This was troubling news for General Burgoyne. His army was reduced by approximately 1,000 men from the Battle of Bennington, and he lost support of almost all of the Native Americans in the region. Burgoyne pushed his army forward to what would be the beginning of the Battle of Saratoga. Burgoyne and his men, nearly 6,000 strong, would win the first engagement and sustained heavy casualties. On October 7, 1777 Burgoyne started what would be his last campaign. During this battle, the Americans, led by Benedict Arnold overwhelmed the British and forced them to retreat under the cover of darkness. Ten days later the American army, led by General Horatio Gates, surrounded the remnants of Burgoyne’s army and forced his surrender.

The goal for the year is for every CAR member and senior to recognize the importance of the Battle of
Saratoga and why it is The Turning Point in our fortunes as a nation. Our society is based on education and patriotism. We need to teach our members the importance of these events, in order that they may comprehend the struggles and sacrifices of our forefathers to become a free and independent people. Let us always remember our past and demonstrate our love of country to future generations. It is through this love of country and the education of our members that all will come to understand the significance of this year’s National Project and Theme – Saratoga: The Turning Point.

The National Project is to raise funds for the Sword Surrender Site Project at Saratoga National Park. This project will include a basrelief sculpture, memorial, walk-ways, and interpretive signage. The basis of this project is the famous painting, The Surrender of General  Burgoyne, by John Trumbull. Major Henry Dearborn would later reflect that Saratoga was “one of the Greatest battles that Ever was fought in America.” Saratoga was the turning point of the American Revolution.  Saratoga was the turning point which resulted in our alliances with France and Spain. Saratoga was the turning point, not only for the colonists, but also for the world. Without this victory, there is no success in our Revolution, there is no French or Spanish Alliance, and there is no United States of America."

To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Endangered Species Act, members of the William Smith Livingston Society gathered at Rocky Mountain National Park where Ms. Diane Harpold presented a very educational program.  The purpose of the ESA is to protect and recover imperiled species and the ecosystems upon which they depend.  It is administered by the Interior Department’s U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS, Secretary Ken Salazar of Colorado) and the Commerce Department’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).  Under the ESA, species may be listed as either endangered or threatened.  “Endangered” means a species is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range.  “Threatened” means a species is likely to become endangered within the foreseeable future.  As of September 2012, there are approximately 1,990 total31040781282?profile=original species listed under the ESA.  The most interesting part of the program was learning about the specific species affected here in Colorado.  For example, the Greenback Cutthroat Trout was presumed to be extinct in 1937.  Numerous wild greenback cutthroat populations were discovered starting in the late 1950s.  Only five naturally occurring pure populations are known to have survived to recent times.  Population has increased in recent decades due to successful reintroduction efforts.  21 out of 55 populations were considered to be stable and more than half of these were within Rocky Mountain National Park.  The greenback was named Colorado’s state fish in 1994.  Other Colorado species listed under the ESA include the Canada Lynx which was reintroduced in 2000 and the Boreal Toad.  For a complete list of Colorado’s species of concern, please visit:

http://wildlife.state.co.us/WildlifeSpecies/SpeciesOfConcern/Pages/SpeciesOfConcern1.aspx

Examples of two species that have made great comebacks are the Bald Eagle and Elk.  Eagle populations continue to increase and the breeding population has doubled every 6-7 years since the late 1970s.  Elk were hunted extensively in the Estes Valley and much of the meat was sent to market in Denver.  By 1890 very few remained.  In 1913 and 1914, 49 elk from Yellowstone were transplanted into the area what was to become Rocky Mountain Nation Park.  Reducing predators such as the grizzly bear and gray wolf hastened the elk’s recovery.    Recently, over-population has become a concern.  The three last years, culling was necessary to thin the herd.  131 elk were removed.  The goal is to maintain the population of 600 to 800 elk.

Champions Lorraine Moller and Colleen Cannon provide fresh approach to fitness

Boulder, Co – Champion athletes Lorraine Moller and Colleen Cannon provided a “Heroines Approach” to fitness at the Boulder Athleta store in January.  Their free presentation “Skip the New Year’s resolutions and go for self-revelation,” is the first in a five part series on Fitness Alchemy presented at the store.

The Heroines approach is an in depth way of looking at personal transformation through fitness, explains Moller, winner of the Boston Marathon and the Avon women's marathon. She also set world records on the road; and placed fifth in the inaugural women's Olympic marathon in 1984. In the 1992 Barcelona Olympics she won a bronze medal in the women’s marathon.  Currently she is President of The Lydiard Foundation, providing endurance training education globally. Cannon is President, CEO and founder of Women’s Quest, a multisport fitness retreat providing athletic and holistic training for women worldwide. Prior to founding Women’s Quest, Colleen was a professional triathlete competing with over seventy career victories including world champion.

The two friends and competitors explain that the Heroines Approach is defined as going into the unknown and finding a path for yourself which has previously been hidden and underutilized in the conscious self.  “A fitness goal is a fantastic way to undertake the Heroines Journey,” Moller explains.  The two reminded the 35 enthusiastic attendees about empowerment and challenges. “And that when things seem to be going wrong, it is usually the precise  opportunity to put us right going forward. It is all a matter of perspective,” she says.

The public is invited to join the remaining  free sessions that are held on Tuesdays  from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.:

Provisional patent awarded, company exhibits this week at Outdoor Retailer Show

Denver, Colorado – Outdoor Girl, a Colorado-based manufacturing company, has introduced its first product in the Outdoor Girl Rack System (OGRS) line. The company’s lift assist system for stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) was designed by women paddle enthusiasts who grew tired of struggling to load heavy, unwieldy boards onto a vehicle roof-top carrier. The OGRS’s hydraulic lift assist allows the average woman to easily load and transport her equipment by herself. The board is loaded at waist level, then hydraulics aid in lifting it up onto the vehicle’s roof.

Two gals, two paddle boards, two cars, zero racks and two fast-paced lives. Outdoor Girl is the brainchild of two busy single women who are executives and moms, Alicia Svaldi and Heidi Hostetter, who bought paddleboards during the summer of 2012. They fell in love with the sport, and started spending more and more time on the water. They also discovered the trials and tribulations that come with transporting large, awkward equipment like paddleboards.

The Outdoor Girl Rack System idea was born on a lake, while paddling away while discussing business and families. What if women could transport their gear more easily? How much more quickly would the sport of stand-up paddle boarding grow, and how much healthier would society be? The Outdoor Girl Rack System empowers users to get out there and live their adventure.

This first product in the Outdoor Girl Rack System is a lightweight aluminum mechanism designed, engineered, and manufactured in the USA at the company’s Arvada, Colorado facility to load and carry stand-up paddleboards. It features a hydraulic assist unit to make loading and unloading a board onto or off of a vehicle rooftop rack system safe, fast, easy, and convenient. Adapters are available to fit the product to any brand-name rooftop vehicle rack.

This is the first in the Outdoor Girl Rack System not only because of the founders’ interest in paddleboarding, but also because SUP is currently one of the fastest growing activities in the nation. Future OG products will accommodate kayaks and canoes.

Outdoor Girl was recently granted a provisional patent for its product, and will be exhibiting at the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City this week. The Outdoor Girl Rack System is coming to vehicle roofs and shorelines near you in the summer of 2013.

About Outdoor Girl

The Outdoor Girl Rack System is designed to help the average, active, outdoor girl who just wants to get to and fro, quickly and easily, confident that her equipment is safe and secure during transport. Outdoor Girl was built on the vision of: Providing women with the liberation of easily transporting their gear; manufacturing its products in the USA; and supporting efforts to cure cancer. Outdoor Girl: for the girl that cares about her rack. For more information, visit http://www.outdoorgirl.us or call (303) 517-6541. Wolcott and team win at 25 Hours of Thunderhill

Young driver wins E2 class at country’s longest sports car race

Race car driver Travis Wolcott finished off his season with another win in California, finishing 1st in his class at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, December 8-9th. He and his co-drivers raced a Mazda MX-5 specially prepared by Atlanta Motorsports Group in the country’s longest endurance sports car race.

This was Wolcott’s endurance sports car racing debut, and an important race for his career. Endurance racing requires much more stamina than sprint racing. Winning at Thunderhill is a challenge. The technical course and long hours took a toll on all competitors for over a full day of racing nonstop.

"I knew that if we could keep mistakes to a minimum, stay out of trouble, and run consistent, fast laps we had a car that could win. It’s a difficult race for everybody. There are so many cars of varying speeds and so many opportunities to lose focus. The most important thing is to stay sharp, " said Wolcott.

Wolcott shared driving duties with three other drivers in the #79 Mazda MX-5. Guy Laidig, Beau Borders, and Todd Launchbaugh each took stints in the car and together the whole team drove from 4th place in class all the way up to the race win, a full 20 laps ahead of their nearest rival.

"I’m thrilled to win the 25 Hours of Thunderhill on my first attempt. These are the kinds of challenges I like to set for myself as I progress. It was critical that I prepare for it properly and find myself with a crew that could get the job done. This is invaluable experience as I continue towards my goal of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans," said Wolcott.

Wolcott was coached through the course at Thunderhill by one of his Pirelli World Challenge competitors, Todd Lamb, who was driving another of Atlanta Motorsports Group’s MX-5s that weekend in a different class. Lamb has won at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill, has competed in Grand-Am, and is a past Playboy MX-5 Cup Champion.

"We had six drivers entered in the 25 that had never seen Thunderhill before. It's a daunting track with blind corners and significant elevation changes. Travis stood out among the six as a true talent, soaking up information that I gave him on the proper lines and getting up to speed quickly on the 15 turn circuit. He and his co-drivers never put a wheel wrong over 25 hours, and it paid off with a win at a very challenging event," said Lamb.

Adding this win to his impressive first professional season in the Pirelli World Challenge, Wolcott is talking to sponsors, partners and others who have taken notice of his strong contention in different cars and conditions.

About Travis Wolcott

Travis Wolcott is a professional race car driver based in Boulder, Colo. He competes in the Touring Car Class of the Pirelli World Challenge in a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta GLI. He received his SCCA Competition license in late 2009 and won his first divisional Championship in 2010. He races with 3ZERO3 Motorsports and Emich Volkswagen in Denver. Wolcott currently offers opportunities for corporate sponsorship, event appearances, private coaching, and product endorsements and distribution. Earlier this week, Adobe in partnership with Edelman Berland released a report entitled Click Here: The State of Online Advertising, which revealed that traditional marketing is more effective than online marketing according to the 1,000 adult, 18 years or older consumers that were interviewed.

When asked to pick up to 2 choices, 45% said newspapers and TV are the best marketing and advertising sources, followed by consumer forums and publications (28%), websites (22%), social media pages (9%), and blogs (4%).

While the data remains consistent with what marketers have know all along – TV is the most influential advertising medium – a digital media plan should not be given up entirely in favor of traditional. Both must work hand-in-hand in order to build a brand that people 1) remember and 2) want to be associated with.

Traditional media helps establish your brand by legitimizing it as well has having the ability to visually display your brand’s personality. An effective, creative TV commercial will make a consumer remember your name and logo when they are presented with many in a search. It can also increase recall when a memberable voiceover recites your tagline or sings your jingle.

Print, like TV is an opportunity to build your brand’s awareness, off and online. Through print you can guide prospects through your benefits and value propositions step by step. You can share images and further position your brand as a leader in the category.

It’s important that within your traditional media you utilize the opportunity to give the consumer your online information – website address, Facebook page, Twitter feed and/or YouTube channel addresses. The credibility that you have built offline will transfer online as the consumer investigates your brand in depth. This is the place to make sure your brand consistency rules are being used. Be sure to use the same fonts, colors and images so the consumer remembers your brand before they consciously think about it.
