31040790859?profile=originalThe prairie lands remained cool from what was left of the 2015 winter on May 9th Mother's Day weekend. Such a long winter for many Colorado folks. Towns all the way from Denver to Lamar surprised & penetrated by the lingering coolness that prevailed onto the farmland & prairie countryside. I was lucky to stop at the Buzzards Roost Tap & Grill in Lamar Colorado just to warm up & relax, maybe eat something, regenerate myself exhausted from driving along the highway 50 route. Entertainment in the bar was scheduled for this Mother's Day, the year 2015. "Thank the heavens friends" The band Judi showed up to perform for the bar patrons & "yes!" I was excited when they started the event.
I decided to stick around after hearing the band called Judi begin by playing the tune "Paint It Black" and singing like angels together, all voices so perfectly well in musical time and correspondence, "One could almost here a band of angels supporting them in choir." As the evening hours progressed so did the altering of the crowd, as it would grow in size and number with new faces and some really beautiful and lovely babes coming around. " Sorry! I meant to say. Women, girls, and ladies" The crowd it grew and grew like a new plant would change to blossom into a new light and then settle down relaxing itself towards the time of sundown in the softening sunlight that might shine from the skies above. Different faces somehow appeared inside the rocking buzzard house tap and bar establishment called The Buzzards Roost Bar & Grill as the band seemed to be so ever busy playing songs together delightfully spreading some real musical life about. Jay and his band were so busy pulling different instruments from the shelf to bring out, to gather brand new chops. Wow! I mean hit some hot chops on the little guitar like a mandolin "That I'd never heard before rip on it like that , a little guitar" and Cody bowing out some red hot fiddle licks with the newly discovered instrument the fiddle. Cody had mastered the songs he played on the fiddle & so good and he also provided quality sounding guitar compositions plus he sang vocals with much ease. Jay played guitar, mandolin and sang lead vocal quite often and with so much spectacular flare. Brandon on the drums and sometimes lead vocals a powerhouse drummer and very talented singer. Mark played keyboard & sax! "Like the big daddy sax man that he is." Able was on bass guitar featuring some very hot vocals often lead singing them as well. Good harmonies prevailed with good tunes all in key and the band like the professionals that they have become was not to loud but just about right for the setting and all folks.

The Night Walks that will take place across North America this fall.  View a video featuring Miranda Cosgrove here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBxJE7Ule4A

Cosgrove, known for her singing and acting in roles in television and movies such as iCarly, Drake & Josh and School of Rock, represents the teenage population heavily impacted by leukemia, the most common cancer in teens her age.  Miranda is also stepping up to honor her own grandmother.

“Join me in celebration of my grandmother, a cancer survivor, and the hundreds of thousands of walkers who support Light The Night Walks,” says Miranda.

The annual LLS Light The Night Walk raises funds for lifesaving research and support for people battling cancer. Walks will take place in more than two hundred communities across the United States and Canada.

Teams of families, friends, co-workers and local and national corporations come together to raise funds for LLS and bring help and hope to people battling blood cancers.

Light The Night Walk events are evenings filled with inspiration. During the leisurely walk, thousands of walkers carry illuminated balloons - white for survivors, red for supporters and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancer.

“I really like that we walk at night, under the stars,” muses Miranda in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBxJE7Ule4A  “Like we’re saying that even in the dark, every one of us can shine a light.”

Funds raised by teams and individual walkers provide:

  • Lifesaving blood cancer research
  • Free educational materials and events for patients and their families
  • Local programs such as Family Support Groups and First Connection, a peer-to-peer counseling program
  • Comprehensive, personalized assistance through the LLS Information Resource Center

Participants can register to walk individually or as part of a team, create their own team or join another local group, make a donation online, or become a volunteer or sponsor/partner.  Learn more at http://www.lightthenight.org/.

In addition, many retailers throughout the North America are inviting customers to purchase a paper balloon for a donation of $1 or more to help LLS find cures for blood cancers. Retailers are encouraged to learn more about providing paper balloons to customers and support the cause.

Companies, local businesses and individuals can also become sponsors or partners and receive local exposure. Sponsorship is a great way for a company to share with the community their commitment to being a good corporate citizen.

Watch the video today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBxJE7Ule4A and join Miranda and thousands of walkers as they collectively bring light to patients, families and friends.

“We walk because someone’s life depends on it,” adds Miranda. “So close your eyes and imagine a world without blood cancer. Open your eyes and walk into it.”

Bryant & Stratton College, a pioneer in career education since 1854 and the premier provider of online associate’s degrees, announced today the launch of the Salute to Spouses scholarship program for military spouses. The first 100 qualified applicants will receive a Salute to Spouses scholarship, which will provide up to $6,000 to attend Bryant & Stratton College Online.

In February, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) suspended the popular Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts program (MyCAA), which offered military spouses up to $6,000 for college or career training. MyCAA was suspended after the program received an unexpected and overwhelming number of enrollments. While DoD has announced that it will honor the financial assistance approved for MyCAA participants already enrolled, no additional benefits will be approved or paid until a review of the program has been completed.

“The abrupt suspension of the MyCAA program is creating a tremendous void for military spouses and we want to do what we can to help those who have given so much in support of our military,” said Scott Traylor, Bryant & Stratton’s Director of Admissions for Online Education. “Career education is especially important for military spouses, since the most portable, high-growth careers often require more than a high-school diploma. Life in the military means frequent relocation, making it difficult for spouses without advanced education to find work or build a career.”

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 60 percent of the top-twenty fastest growing occupations require at least an associate’s degree. High-growth, high-demand occupations, such as those in healthcare, are ideal for military spouses who need skills that will translate regardless of their location. The Salute to Spouses scholarship program is an opportunity for military spouses affected by the suspension of the MyCAA program to continue their education while the Department of Defense completes its review. If the MyCAA program is reinstated, the combination of the Salute to Spouses scholarship and MyCAA cannot exceed the cost of tuition.

The Salute to Spouses scholarship program for military spouses will award 100 scholarships up to $600 (for part-time students) or $1,200 (for full-time students) per semester for programs offered by Bryant & Stratton College Online, with a maximum $6,000 scholarship award per recipient. To qualify, applicants must:

• Be a military spouse with military ID card;
• Have graduated high school prior to the current academic year;
• Submit a written essay;
• Follow all scholarship policies as outlined in the Bryant & Stratton College catalog, such as maintaining a 3.0 GPA with no breaks in enrollment.

More information about the Salute to Spouses scholarship program for military spouses offered by Bryant & Stratton College Online can be found at www.SalutetoSpouses.com.

Bryant & Stratton College Online is regionally accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and offers three online bachelor’s degree programs, ten online associate’s degree programs and nine online certificate programs in a variety of fields including business, criminal justice, financial services, healthcare, human resources and information technology. Information about the programs offered by Bryant & Stratton College Online is available at http://online.bryantstratton.edu.

Graduates Start New Life Via Second Life

The virtual world of Second Life has seen a host of experiences over the years, but on June 10th, the first Second Life college graduation will be held on the Second Life campus of the 150 year old Bryant & Stratton College. Approximately 40 graduates ranging in age from 25 to 45 will don their virtual cap and gown to receive their college degrees with all of the pomp and circumstance regularly witnessed in the real world, including the procession, the commencement speaker and the conferring of degrees.Second Life is an online virtual world where visitors, called Residents, can interact with each other through avatars. Residents can explore, meet other residents, socialize, participate in individual and group activities, and create and trade virtual property and services with one another, or travel throughout the world.Second Life has a large, active education community—with hundreds of higher education members (the likes of Harvard, MIT, Duke, and Penn State). Many of these forward thinking universities, including Bryant & Stratton, have set up virtual campuses where students can meet, attend classes, and create content together. In fact, recently Bryant & Stratton hosted its first open house to introduce the college to prospective students in the vibrant 3-D environment of Second Life. The school has already reaped the rewards by enrolling one student who came directly from that open house.Sheri Frost, a mother of four, went online for school and in the process also became engaged in Second Life. On June 10th, she will be one of the Bryant & Stratton graduates receiving her associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies. “Going to school online has fulfilled a long time dream of mine—achieving a degree and setting a good example for my children. To cap off the online education experience with a virtual graduation, with my family by my side, will be extremely rewarding.”The Bryant & Stratton Second Life graduation will only be open to graduates and their families. However, the school has built a viewing area for people to explore the Second Life experience at http://online.bryantstratton.edu/slgraduation.
