Colorado Animal Sanctuary Hosts Event to Support Community Impacted by Marshall Fire

Jan. 11, 2022 – The fire that swept through the tight-knit communities of Louisville, Superior, and Unincorporated Boulder County on December 30, 2021 has caused so much destruction and suffering, including the devastating loss of countless beloved companion animals. Luvin Arms Animal Sanctuary is hosting a special pet loss grief support group event for members of those communities, giving them the opportunity to share stories, receive much needed emotional support, and connect with some of the Luvin Arms’ animal residents who have survived their own experiences with trauma and grief.

The event will be facilitated by Richard Mercer, a Superior-based hospice grief counselor who also volunteers as a pet loss grief group facilitator. “My intention for our time together is for us to create a healing place where we might experience some respite and supportive companionship while we heal in our grief, “ said Mercer. “This can only exist when we feel safe.”

The event will be held on Sunday, January 23 at 1:00pm Mtn at the Erie-based Sanctuary. Community members have the option to attend the event virtually.

Luvin Arms is a nonprofit animal sanctuary for abused and neglected farmed animals, based in Erie, Colorado. Luvin Arms is working to provide exceptional lifelong social, emotional, and cognitive care for their animal residents, and to advocate for those who have not been rescued by sharing their residents’ stories to inspire, educate, and empower others to embrace a more compassionate and sustainable lifestyle.

(Lafayette, CO) – TRU PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly), an innovative new program of TRU Community Care, is partnering with several area nonprofit agencies to serve the frail senior population in Boulder and southwest Weld Counties. Now open, TRU PACE helps seniors navigate the complex issues associated with aging.

The program provides a safety net for frail seniors ages 55+ who would otherwise need nursing-home-level care. Participants in TRU PACE arrive at the day center (thanks to transportation from Via) to receive interdisciplinary, coordinated care from an 11-member team, including a physician, nurse, nutritionist, physical therapist, and more. Services include recreational therapy, laundry, meals, and prescription management.

<“PACE participants are what I consider the most vulnerable members of our community. Via, as the county’s nonprofit transportation provider, is happy to partner with TRU PACE to serve seniors in Boulder and southwest Weld counties.” said Mary Cobb, Director of Communications at Via.

Thanks to local partner organizations Via and Meals on Wheels - Boulder, TRU PACE participants receive mobility support as well as nutritious meals both on-site and to take home. TRU strives to keep these seniors independent and living in their communities for as long as possible.

<“We at Meals on Wheels of Boulder are thrilled to partner with TRU PACE! Our organizations are perfectly aligned to increase our ability to meet the senior nutrition needs of our area residents. It is a privilege to be a part of this new service.” remarked Francea Phillips, President & CEO of Meals on Wheels Boulder.

Referral sources and the community may call 303.665.0115 or email pace@trucare.org to speak with an enrollment specialist. TRU PACE is a Medicare and/or Medicaid covered benefit and also accepts private pay.

Magnolia Pictures and the Green Film Company announced today a unique screening program in ten cities across the country that will allow filmgoers to choose how much they want to pay for an advance look at Freakonomics: The Movie. These pay-what-you-want screenings offer fans a chance to see the film on Wednesday, September 22nd at 7:30pm, at the Chez Artiste theater in Denver (4150 E. Amherst Avenue), two weeks before the highly anticipated film version of the internationally bestselling book by Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt hits theaters.

Tickets for the screenings are now available, and are being exclusively sold online through MovieTickets.com. Filmgoers can choose how much they wish to pay—anywhere in the range of $.01 to $100, with the completion of a short questionnaire. The survey, which after completion gives access to the ticket buying page on MovieTickets.com, is accessible here:

http://www.magpictures.com/freakonomics/freaksurvey.html

In the spirit of the creative, incentives-based thinking behind Freakonomics, the pay-what-you-want screenings reference a popular experiment from the original book, in which authors Levitt and Dubner analyze how people interact with a weekly, pay-what-you-want bagel delivery service. The data collected anonymously at the time of purchase will be analyzed by authors Dubner and Levitt to identify what factors and circumstances prompt movie-goers to pay more or less for their screening tickets.

“The pay-what-you-want screening represents a fun and engaging way to illustrate the underlying premise of Freakonomics—the application of economics and incentives-based thinking to everyday situations to uncover surprising and sometimes controversial conclusions,” muses producer Chad Troutwine. “It seems only fitting, then, to engage Freakonomics audiences in their own local economic experiment, offering a chance to see the film in advance of its theatrical release while simultaneously bringing the concept of incentives thinking to life.”

Produced by Green Film Company and distributed by Magnolia Pictures, Freakonomics examines human behavior with provocative and often hilarious case studies brought to life by a dream team of Academy Award® and Sundance Film Festival winning directors. Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing (Jesus Camp) balance levity and candor with their eye-opening profile of underachieving kids incentivized to learn with cold hard cash. Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) delivers a visually arresting look at the crumbling facade of Sumo wrestling. Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) offers up a buoyant and revealing angle on the repercussions of baby names. Finally, Eugene Jarecki (Why We Fight) investigates an unsettling theory to explain why crime rates dramatically dropped in the early 1990s. Seth Gordon (The King of Kong) weaves the segments together with brisk interludes, providing context and commentary from authors Dubner and Levitt.

Space at the pay-what-you-want screenings are limited, and tickets available on a first come, first served basis. In addition to opening theatrically nationwide on October 1st, Freakonomics is also available for rent at a premium advance price on iTunes (www.iTunes.com/freakonomics), Amazon, and On Demand through major cable providers everywhere.

Freakonomics the Movie, the highly anticipated film version of the internationally bestselling book about incentives-based thinking by Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt, hits Denver’s Starz Film Center
at the Tivoli this Friday, October 8, 2010. Produced by Green Film Company, Freakonomics the Movie features a dream team of Academy Award® and Sundance Film Festival winning directors.

Like the book, the film examines human behavior with provocative and occasionally hilarious case studies. For those who read the book but are looking for something fresh, Freakonomics the Movie also covers entirely new ground. Finally, Eugene Jarecki (Why We Fight) investigates an unsettling theory to explain why crime rates dramatically dropped in the early 90s. Seth Gordon (The King of Kong) weaves the pieces together with brisk interludes, providing context and commentary from the authors.

Producer Chad Troutwine saw cinematic potential in the surprise bestseller. “With Freakonomics the Movie, Stephen Dubner and Steve Levitt promised to reveal the hidden side of everything, and they delivered a brilliant book that achieved mainstream success,” extols Chad Troutwine, the Producer of the cinematic adaptation. “Similarly, our film Freakonomics the Movie seeks to achieve broad appeal by examining every day topics like parenting, cheating, and bribery without abandoning the economics research that legitimized the book. This is a golden era for non-fiction filmmaking, and Freakonomics the Movie showcases the best non-fiction filmmakers in the world.”
